Thanks to the benefits contributed by the
vitrification of oocytes and the other techniques involved in the preservation of fertility, we consider that a new sphere of action has been opened up within the field of
Assisted Reproduction which allows us to preserve maternity at
IVI.
A major group of patients who can benefit from these techniques are young women who have been diagnosed with cancer who are going to be given treatment with chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Nowadays modern medicine has succeeded in increasing the recovery and survival rates among patients suffering from cancer, largely due to improvements in oncology treatments, and as a result, the consequences of these treatments are even more relevant.
As well as young women diagnosed with cancer, preserving maternity at IVI would be recommended for patients who have autoimmune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, glomerulonephritis), or who are going to be given a bone marrow transplant and need to be treated with cytotoxins, for young women with severe endometriosis, and in general women who for whatever reason (work issues, the search for greater socioeconomic stability, women who do not have a partner, or who have a partner but who do not want to have a baby at that particular time), wish to preserve their maternity.
For men, the problem is much more straightforward: it is resolved simply by freezing a sample of their semen.
