Maternal-Foetal medical Unit

This unit is specialised in and exclusively devoted to pregnancy preparation, complete control over mothers’ and foetus’ health during gestation, and assistance in birth and puerperium.

What are the advantages of keeping a check on the pregnancy in our Unit?

• Qualified professionals with wide experience.
• Availability of the latest technology
• Protocols individualised according to any pregnancy risk factors.

What services does the Maternal-Foetal Medical Unit offer me?

1. Pre-conception consultation
We counsel couples with chronic diseases, hereditary disorders or previous gestational problems (abortions, premature births, stillbirths, foetal malformations, low birth weight, pre-eclampsia, etc.) to prevent their precedents from having negative effects on the gestation.

2. Gestational control
To reach birth under the best conditions.

3. Pre-natal diagnosis
In order to know that the baby is developing normally, we carry out a detailed, risk-free examination between the 11th and 13th week of pregnancy.
   • Genetic ultrasound scan to rule out Down syndrome with a 90% reliability.
   • Morphological ultrasound scan to discard anatomical malformations and other defects such as a congenital cataract or cleft lip.
   • Foetal echocardiography, a study of the baby’s heart in order to plan surgical corrections accurately for any possible defects after birth.

4. 3D and 4D foetal ultrasound scan
A three-dimensional ultrasound scan that enables us to complete the foetal anatomic study when it is necessary to rule out a pathology that is difficult to assess (e.g. cerebral or spinal problems, etc.), and in addition obtain very realistic photos of the babies.

5. Complete check-ups on foetal health
For problematic pregnancies that require stricter control over the baby’s state of health.

6. High risk consultation
We keep a check on women with obstetric risk factors due to chronic illnesses, prior gestational problems, or problems arising during the present pregnancy.

7. Birth assistance
We have a team of  obstetricians, midwives, anaesthetists and paediatricians with a lot of experience in all kinds of births, including multiple ones.

Can I resort to this Unit even if I plan to keep a check on my pregnancy at another centre?
