What is outpatient surgery?
Until a few years ago, having surgery inevitably meant a more or less lengthy period of hospital stay. Nowadays, there are many operations for which it is not regarded as necessary for the patient to remain in hospital more than a few hours: these are the procedures known as outpatient surgery. These procedures have been shown to be as safe and effective as conventional surgery, but to make them more beneficial an effort is made to reduce the traumatisms as much as possible so the patient can go back home a few hours after the operation.
