When patients have reached the menopause prematurely or have had both of their ovaries removed, when they have chromosomal anomalies which are systematically passed on to their offspring, when they do not respond well to ovarian stimulation medication, when
IVF fails repeatedly, or even in other circumstances, there is a very real chance of becoming pregnant through oocyte donation. Recipient women must take medication which prepares their uterus for implantation of the embryos which will be transferred, and while a donation is taking place they must stay in close contact with their IVI Clinic so that they can be located at the moment when a donation takes place.
The same tests which are carried out on
semen donors will be performed on oocyte donors, in order to rule out the existence of congenital diseases (provided that these have been detected in the donor), malformations and sexually transmitted diseases.
This is undoubtedly the most effective method which exists in
assisted reproduction.
